The European Union and the European Commission

The European Union is composed of fifteen state-members that decided to unite, gradually, their know-how, resources and destinies. Together, through a fifty year broadening period, it has built a stable area of democratic and sustainable development, preserving its cultural diversity, tolerance, and individual liberty. The Union is willing to do its utmost to share its experiences and knowledge with other countries and people from different parts of the world.

The European Commission is an executive organ of the European Union. Directed by twenty superintendents, it presents legislative proposals and acts as a guardian of treaties. The commission also elaborates and executes common policies and international commerce relations. It is also in charge of external aid programs outside the European Union.
